How to Become a GBA Official

Are you (or is someone you know) interested in becoming a basketball official? We are always looking for new and experienced officials. Gainesville Basketball Association referees must be at least 16 years of age.  We provide preseason training seminars, as well as training throughout the season. If this is something that you are looking to do, simply follow the steps below.

Create an account.  During the open registration period, visit www.gainesvillebasketball.org and click the orange Register Now button. Then, click the drop-down menu and select REFEREE. If you are under 18 years old, please register as a MINOR.  If you are 18 or older, please register as an ADULT. Adult applicants will be subject to a background check and must complete a concusion training course.

Each referee is required to attend GBA training classes.  Training will be in the late fall.  Classes include information on rules and refereeing strategies, as well as on-the-court training.  New applicants will be required to attend at least two (2) training sessions.  Returning referees will be required to attend at least one (1) training session.  After completing the required classes and passing the test, referees will be qualified to begin officiating GBA games.  First year refs will be paired with returning refs who will help them continue their training.

Official Uniform – Black shorts or pants, tucked in referee shirt.  GBA will provide a whistle if you need one.
