Travel Basketball
 
The 2013-14 Travel Coaches online application will be open July 15th-Auguest 15th 2013. Interviews will take place in early September. Selections announced Mid-September. All interested canidates must fill out the application before the deadline.
 
Registration
 
  • Applicants can register for travel during the annual registration period.
  • Try-outs will take place in early October, team selections will follow shortly thereafter.
  • All players must register via the on-line registration process and can pay via credit card.
  • If players are not selected to play on a travel team, they will be automatically placed in the recreational league.
  • Once selected to a team each player is required to provide a Virginia Child ID card (formerly called Walker ID), available at most DMV offices.  DMV offices are located in Manassas and Warrenton, For information regarding how and where to obtain a Virginia Child ID card please visit the DMV website at www.dmv.state.va.us/webdoc/citizen/id/child_id.asp. League rules also require a report card to determine the player's grade.
  • Registration fee is $125, if selected an additional fee of $165 is required, totaling $290. If you have an uniform that is not more then two years old you can reuse it for the 2013-14 season fees are then $115, totaling $240.

APPROXIMATE COST BREAKDOWN (PER PLAYER) for 2012-2013:

$50 for uniforms
$95 FCYBL player registration fee (Based on 10 kids per team set by FCYBL in Oct/Nov season).
$125 gym rental fee (This fee is assessed by Prince William County Park Authority-PWCPA).
$20 for GBA registration, Coaches Shirts, two (2) game basketballs per team.

Divisions
 
For the 2013-2014 season, GBA "Travel" expects to field two teams in the following divisions:
  • Boys 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade divisions
  • Girls 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade divisions
  • Grade in school based teams (See Travel FAQ's)
 Skills Assessment 
 
Coaches will select players based on their skill level. Which can range from defensive skills, ball handling, offensive skills and basketball knowledge. Dates and locations will be posted.
 
Practice/Game Schedule
 
Prior to the season practices will be twice a week, 
  • Practices begin in October, games in December [Note: that Travel teams require more practice time (generally twice a week for 60-90 minutes].
  • All Games will be played within the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL) often weeknight and weekend games, and held in gyms across Fairfax County as well as in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Prince William and Loudoun counties [However, "Travel" basketball  teams, unlike soccer travel teams, do not play outside Northern Virginia].
  • Begin in November and will conclude in late February
